Wolf Facts

The wolf is graced with a keep intelligence, a social nature, and a sense of curiosity - yet has been poisoned, shot, and trapped for centuries. It is not easy to transcend the image of the "Big Bad Wolf" that has filled our legends, our myths, and our minds.

There isn't a single recorded instance of a healthy wolf killing a human anywhere in the world.

Wolves are anything but bad. While strong and powerful, they settle most disputes within the pack not by fighting and bloodshed, but through ritual and fine-tuned communication. A piercing glance or quick snarl may be all that is needed to resolve differences.

The wolf's strongest response to people is usually curiosity or fear, not aggression.

Throughout history, wolves have simply performed the purpose nature designed for them to fill. Predators such as the wolves are necessary for the balance of nature. That balance, however, has been critically altered in many wild areas as concerted efforts to wipe out wolves have been very nearly successful. It has taken people only 33 years to bring the wolf near to extinction. Despite legal protection, this magnificent animal is still being hunted in Europe.
